我觉得句子里单词apply词意应是“应用”，不是“适用于”。可是它前面结构又仿佛不完整，应当改为as it was appliedto time，来表达被动语态。
请教老师，我上面理解有什么错误？应怎么样理解这里单词apply的词性还词意？
as applied to time是as they are applied to time的省略形式，是方法状语。they are“at”、“in”and“on”，as applied to time.虽然as引导的是状语，但译成汉语时一直译成定语。
