转世规范用reincarnation system表示，即活佛转世规范（reincarnation system of living Buddhas），是藏传佛教解决教派和活佛传承问题的特有规范。Reincarnation（转世）是一种宗教定义，指人的肉身死亡（biological death）之后，灵魂（soul or spirit）可以投转到一个新的身体里开始新是生命。

活佛转世规范作为西藏宗教特有些信仰和传承方法，得到国家和西藏自治区各级政府的尊重，藏传佛教僧人学经规范也不断健全。现在，西藏有各类宗教活动场合（religious venues）1787处，住寺僧尼4.6万多人；现有活佛（living Buddhas）358名，其中60多位新转世活佛按历史定制和宗教仪轨得到认定（more than 60 were newly incarnated^{2 according to customs and religious rituals）。}
