在胡鑫镛、葛传椝合编的《英语语法五十题》（P.91）上有如下说明：
作状语用的time词组中，time如为基数词或数目词所修饰，不可以用介词for：
*I met him for four times /a few times.
→ I met him four times /a few times. 我遇见他四次（几次）。
所以，I was sick three times in the night.这句话的three times前不是省略了for，而是不可以用for。
▲在该书的121页还有说明：
回答问题how many times？（几次？）时，不可以用时间介词for，但在“序数词+time”中，可省可不省。

1. 这个句子中的dared是情态动词dare的过去时形式，后面应接动词原形go。
2. 当dare作行为动词且用否定式时，后面可以接带to或不带to的动词不定式。如：
